Below is a real example of how I analyze a golfer’s swing using V1 Golf video analysis software.
You’ll see:
This is exactly the type of feedback you receive when you submit your swing.
Handicap: 14
Main Miss: Fat iron shots and inconsistent contact
Typical Ball Flight:
• Occasional thin shots
• Weak fades
•Loss of distance
Strike irons more solidly and compress the ball better.
Down-the-Line View
Key Observations
At first glance the swing looks good, but a few key issues are causing inconsistent contact.
The biggest problems are:
The biggest problems are:
• Early extension through impact
• Loss of posture
• Club approaching too steeply
These combine to move the low point behind the ball, which is why the golfer hits fat shots.
What’s Happening Here
The player shifts weight early in the downswing but then stalls the rotation of the body approaching impact.
When this happens:
• Arms throw outward
• Club gets steep
• Low point moves backward
The result is inconsistent strike
Early Extension
In this swing the hips move toward the ball during the downswing.
When this happens:
• Space disappears for the arms
• The club steepens
• The golfer flips at impact
This is extremely common in amateur swings.
Fixing this improves:
Maintain Posture Through Impact
The key change is keeping the hips deeper and maintaining posture longer in the downswing.
When this happens:
• Arms can shallow naturally
• Club approaches from inside
• Low point moves forward
This produces clean ball-then-turf contact.
Drill 1 — Chair Drill
Place a chair behind your hips.
Make slow swings keeping your hips in contact with the chair longer.
This trains the correct hip movement and prevents early extension.
Early Extension
Grip the club with hands separated.
Make half swings focusing on:
• Body rotation
• Maintaining posture
• Controlling the club path
This improves sequencing and contact.
Place a line on the ground and practice striking the ground in front of the line.
This teaches the correct low-point position.
When golfers fix early extension they typically see:
• Cleaner iron contact
• Stronger ball flight
• Better distance control
• More consistent strike
It’s one of the highest-impact improvements most golfers can make.
Before
After
• Fat shots
• Weak fades
• Inconsistent distance
• Ball-first contact
• Compressed iron shots
• More predictable distance
Many golfers try to improve their swing based only on feel.
The problem is what you feel is rarely what you’re actually doing.
Video analysis removes the guesswork.
When you can see your swing clearly, the fixes become much easier to understand and apply.
